IUI is intrauterine insemination, a much simpler procedure than IVF.

IVF, in vitro fertilization requires more hormones, aspiration of ova, etc.

IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes & therefore is a good solution for women with blocked tubes, for example. It can also be combined with ICSI, allowing eggs to be fertilized even if only a handful of sperm cells can be found.

Most couples start with IUI, and if after several cycles it is unsuccessful, move on to IVF.
