The answer is YES. Please come and enjoy yourself.

There has been the odd unfortunate incident where misguided religious zealots 'raided' an American tourist's hotel room and demanded to see the 'woman' who happened to be his wife. Very embarassing to all Malaysians. I understand these self appointed guardians of our moral have since been disbanded and sent back to the coconut shells from where they emerged

Malaysia is at the crossroad of cultures and the mix is really exotic and interesting.

Places where you want to visit depends on your interests. My suggestions are:

Shopping: KLCC, Jalan Bukit Bintang - lots of bargains to be found

Nature lovers: National Park in Pahang; Sipadan (Scuba paradise), Islands in the South China Sea such as Tioman, Rawa.

Mountain resorts for a good rest: Fraser's Hill, Cameron Highlands.

Theme parks: Sunway lagoon, Genting Highlands

Cultural and historical places: Malacca, Penang

Super Clean beaches & waters: Sabah

Golf: Many places all over the country

Can no problem even if you are a Muslim just DON'T GET CAUGHT.

This Applies for Muslim.
If you are staying in those low budget hotels then you MAY have a problem, but if you are staying in those big hotels then i don't think, and i repeat I DON'T think it will be a problem. Cause i am not really sure. Since i was a hotelier once they never come to the hotel i was working at since the day i started to the day i resign (4 star hotel).

If Your NOT a Muslim.
Then its not a problem

As for the sightseeing i think most of it has been covered by hehe haha.
I would suggest also to go to the KL Tower to have a view of the city, in the evening or at night is the best since the city will be lighted up. And the Twin Tower Bridge too. Its almost the same as KL Tower but its free.
And for cheap things go China Town / Petaling Street

Edit: busy_beeM has also said the places i said sorry i didnt see that.

Never had a problem in KL but I do believe that some others have had a different experience in other parts of Malaysia. In Kuala Lumpur, an unmarried couple can share a room provided none of them are Muslim or of Malay origin. Also, it is advisable to respect local culture because somebody can object to you kissing your partner in a place like a cafe or garden. Honestly, there are not many places worth seeing in KL but you could visit the Genting Highlands, the Petronas Twin Towers, the tourist district of Jalan Bukit Bintang and the F-1 race course near the Sepang Airport. There are also a few museums..if you are interested. Try Malaysian food. It's good.

Most hotels, especialy 4-5 stars will not allow unmarried couples to stay in the same room. They will definitely ask for proof of your marriage. There are some hotels that will allow but you are risking yourself as there are random police checks and they will show you no mercy if you are caught. Why don't you stay in a friend's flat instead? But preferably in an area where police checks are rare; usually in upscale villages

In this city like Kuala Lumpur or 3- 5 star hotels, it is okay. However, if you are Malay decide to go to small town especially where majority of people is Malay/Muslim (rural area) then you should think 2wice or select your hotel well.

JAWI is the organisation which decide raid your room always based on reports/complaints by public or receptionist to them.

However, this law is not applied to non-muslims.

Yes you can stay in the same room provided you're not Muslim or of Malay origin.

Good places to visit:-
Petronas Twin Towers & KLCC shopping mall
KL Tower
Mid Valley Megamall
Petaling Street / Chinatown (for cheap bargains!)
Central Market (for crafts)
Dataran Merdeka (for a bit of Moorish architecture and one of the tallest flagpole in the world)
Batu Caves (Hindu temples in caves)
and lots more!
