I believe that the Confederates were wanting the right to withdraw from the union which they had a right to do so in the Consitution. The Federalists would not accept it as it would take away the southern ports effecting trade as they were protectionists. The issue of slavery was a smokescreen as Abraham Lincon and many Unionists wanted to deport freed slaves to make more room for the whites in fact Abe was a racist did not believe in rights for blacks . The Confederates just wanted the right to self determination but the Unionists would not accept it so in my mind the war was an act of aggression by the Unionists.

Sweet its a myth that the war was about slavery but sadly its been drumed into people that not many will question it . It was about power on the part of the Unionists . And the desire on the part of nine southern states to withdraw from the union two more states joined including Virginia because of the behaviour of the Federalists in fact Robert E Lee was a supporter of the Union but changed his mind he was also one of five leading Confederates who was critical of slavery.

I feel that at that time, the North had loss touch with the needs of the South. Although the slavery issue was involved with the war, the bottom line is that the South got tired of being dictated to.

The Confederates were fighting for their rights to be observed. As for rights for blacks, the North did not impose real rights for slaves for many years after that.

So as far as the Confederates being freedom fighters, absolutely.

Anyone who has actually studied history knows that the Civil War didn't start because of slavery. It was an issue, but not the real reason. Abraham Lincoln used the abolition of slavery as a way to drum up support from Europe and among his own populace who were angry about the war. The Emancipation Proclamation wasn't issued until 1863 -- two years after the start of the war.

Not sure what your question is... but you are absolutely correct, the civil war was NOT about slavery, the south had every right to leave the union and it really was the war of northern aggression.

The abolition of slavery was just a positive outcome.

I may br wrong, but most wars are only a question of economics. The Confederacy wanted to maintain their way of making a buck, and the Union was about to upset their apple-cart.Slavery,being a crucial part of their profit margin, they weren't willing to give up so easily.True, the North and South had a symbiotic relationship in industry and economic well being, but times and people change. The South was not willing,so there was war.FYI slavery is alive and well in the world today. Not recognised so much anymore, but still practiced in places like Africa."Link"

They wanted state's rights. The problem was, their main issue for state's rights was slavery, and the the unionists felt it ws a violation of human rights.

No, they were fighting to keep slavery, this is a major mistake when people try to re-write history to meet their needs. The south's economy was propt up by slave labor, the north wanted to end slavery and doing so would cost southerners a lot of money and so they fought to keep slavery.
