I think it's best not to be too doctrinaire about this issue. "If it's not broken, don't fix it" is a good general rule. There are many countries where a constitutional monarchy is working quite well. Also, it has to be said, looking at countries in the middle east and parts of the Third World eg Africa that the monarchies are more stable, less prone to chaos and cruel dictatorships than the republics.

As a loyal subject of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, I am wholeheartedly in support of our current system of constitutional monarchy. The Parliamentary system is far superior to the United States' Presidential system - it limits executive power, the Prime Minister is always in the House of Commons answering for every decision and the Commonwealth is one of the greatest diplomatic organizations in the world.

Many benefits, few detractions in this modern day.
