Like most things, it can be good or bad. Taken to an extreme, it could go wrong very quickly I'm sure. For me, it's been a good thing so far. Being myself always, I'm able to see the perspectives of others more clearly than if I were to simply follow along with the crowd. I see the world in a different way than most people I know, and I've learned a lot about it and about myself because of that.

Assuming you live in the US. then basically everybody who answers this question is going to say yes. We (as well as Europe) are an individualistic society, so we are taught that this is fine and the way it's it's supposed to be. If you speak to somebody in a collective society, then we are considered to be selfish and we do not incorporate our family and the macro well-being of people into our lives. This being "good" solely depends on how you were raised. My opinion:good.

There is no objective "good" or "bad".

A person hunting for and treasuring their individuality is going to serve to benefit themselves as an individual.... but may be a hinderance to society around them.

One finds often enough that society and the needs of the individual are at odds. Afterall, society has no more consideration for us than we do for individual cells in our own bodies. We don't like taking damage, and society doesn't like us killing others.... whereas for the individual, removing the competition may be entirely beneficial. On the whole though, society likewise rejects our wish to be different.... to be individuals... because cooperation and consistancy is easier when we are all identical drones.... with no unique features nor individuality at all.

So really.... you ought to be wondering who or what you want to do good for.... yourself, or everyone else.

I am an individual and I believe it comes from being an only child. Being this way can be lonely at times when others wish to be one of the sheep. But, this is the way it is and I have never wished for it to be any other way. I am who I am.
