Turn your PC off, then turn your Cable / DSL modem off, or unplug it, for 30 seconds, and then restart it.

Wait 2 minutes, then power up your PC, and you should be able to connect to the net.

Call your ISP if this doesn't work, it may be a problem at their end.

Computers need IP addresses to communicate with each other on the internet. You most likely get an address every time you start your computer(dynamically). If you have a broad band (cable or dsl) connection and you have a broad band router, (a box that sits between your computer and the broadband modem) that is what is giving your compter an address. If you don't have a router (you should, it offers a layer of protection) then you get your address directly from your ISP (internet service provider). In either case case make sure everything is plugged in and turned on and restart your comptuter, it should pick up an address automatically. If your using a dial up account you get your address from from your ISP, if the dial up software says your connected and you don't get an address you'll have to contact your ISP to see why you don't get an address.

Probably you could not connect to net and the DHCP sever was unavailable! DHCP server provides IP address automatically to client PCs(if configured so)
