It sounds to me the person you need to thank is like an organ donor, or something along those lines, and the only way to show your gratitude would be to make the most of what they gave you. In this instance, that would be to make the most of life - your life. And do for others that which you would want done for you, or even has already been done for you. Most people's sacrifices don't require a physical gratification, but more a spiritual one and the person who you feel needs your gratitude already feels it.

Easy, live your life the way you think this person would want you to, pretend that they can see you. you never know one day your paths may cross. If that happens and they see the effort you made then they will be very flattered and you will have shown your gratitude in the best way poss.
