For sleeping if yours son is anything like my daughter it was hard for her to sleep so we used a Vicks Vaporizor along with Vicks baby rub on her chest at night, she slept sooooo much better throughout the night and it seemed to help her a lot during the day too. When using the syringe to get the mucus out another great wonder is Little Noses saline solution. You can purchase this at Wal-Mart for about $3.00 or any drug store. Hope this works for you! Good Luck!

ok heres what i have always done!
take the baby into the bathroom, close the door and windows and run a hot bath, sit in the bathroom while the bath is running so that he breathes in the warm moist air, this helps loosen muscus, then use a menthol rub or oil, not directly on the childs skin but on a handkerchief in his cot this will unblock his nose for a restful nights sleep

My 3 month old daughter is getting her first cold. We are going to try the hot shower/bathroom thing. Turn the hot water on and shut the bathroom door - try to loosen it out of her. Also - we have been using Baby Vix at night. It helps her breathe better.

If it is only congestion I use the sale en solution, salt water and squirt that into each nostril then pull it out with the seringe then I go itno our bathroom and sit with her while a very hot shower is running Turing it into a steam room. This helps with my sinuses as well. Make sure you have tissue's in the bathroom with you.
