I have lived in Andalucia, not far from Malaga for 8 yrs now and I can honestly say that in all this time I have never met an unfriendly Spanish person and I have travelled the province extensively, and if you try to speak a little Spanish they practically fall over backwards to help you and correct you in a nice manner if you get the words wrong.
I know this is a biased opinion but I live here, love it and love the people

I lived in spain for over 10 years, went to spanish school from an early age, had a mix friends; spanish, swedish, dutch, english, danish, french, etc,.....
I always found the spanish to be very helpfull and friendly, as long as you try and make the effort and be nice as well.
i grew up in the malaga area, but am now looking at buying property in murcia region. I have also been to bilbao, the pyrinees, asturias as mentioned above (where they have the most mental cider parties!) obviously i have been all round andalucia; granada, cadiz, cordoba, jjaen etc..
And i have found that everywent i went the spanish were friendly and helpfull, and a lot of fun.
but im going to have to say malaga, cuz its like my home

I am from Spain. The people from the south of Spain is known for be very friendly and the people form the north is suppose to be less friendly but I have to say that it is very easy to find friendly people everywhere. I think is a matter of luck and not a matter of the region. Good Luck.
