A line of symmetry is also called a fold line. When a shape is folded on the line of symmetry, both sides match. They are the same size and shape.

When any figure or an object is folded on a certain line, then that lines divides the figure or figure exactly. i.e. two parts are congruent.
e.g. A square is having axis of symmetry along the sides as well as along the axis. While a rectangle is having axis of symmetry along the sides only.
An equilateral triangle has 3 axis of symmetry along the three sides
But in isosceles triangle have only one axis of symmetry along the non-congruent side.
While in scalene triangle there is no axis of symmetry.
In case of circle there are infinite axis of symmetry.

I think 'fold lines'
If the shape can be folded so that both sides are an exact mirror of each other ... the fold line is the line of symmetry
