It's because Princes Andrew and Edward are guys that they are higher in the order of succession than their sister Anne. But a male heir does not inherit ahead of his mother. The crown is meant to pass to each generation in turn - after George VI came his daughter, *then* it will be Charles's turn after she dies. But in 1952 the toddler Charles was not heir to the throne.

Prince Charles will probably never sit on the throne even if Queen Elizabeth were to die tomorrow; there's too much negative press surrounding him (Princess Diana divorce from him the affair with Camilla Bowles and the marriage of Charles and Camilla). Next in line for the throne would be either Harry or William then again if the Queen should pass on the United Kingdom might scrap the whole King and Queen thing and go with an elected leader (similar to the United States)

The era of enormous power of the British King/ Queen and fighting for the British thrown has passed long ago with the development of democracy in the UK and the changes of the world.

We know, monarchs turned to be just ornamental positions now in almost all countries in the world (except some Arab countries) with almost zero power in ruling the nation. So, although Prince Charles is enough grown up to be the king, he is pretty wise not to make any chaos or hurry for that and tarnish his Royal image to the world. He knows very well that with time, the thrown would be offered to him.

Nevertheless, if for any reason, he does not get the thrown, he would remain as the Prince of the British Empire with all statutory facilities until his death. So, he is not supposed to be much worried for that.

Charles is the legally recognized heir to the throne, as Prince of Wales. He doesn't inherit the throne until his mother dies. And William won't be king, in turn, until his father dies.

They will not upset a system of inheritance that has been in place for centuries. It's not a popularity contest or an election.

For Prnice Charles to take over the throne he needs Queen Elizabeth II to abdicate the throne or for her to be dead. He can't become King until the Queen is no longer residing on the throne.

They have a monarch, Elisabeth the second. Until she decides to leave the throne, no one can be his or her Majesty, lets hope she doesn't, Prince Charles and his wife should not rule, in my opinion.

But the Queen is STILL ALIVE! He gets the throne (NOT thrown) when the current monarch dies.

That's the way it works.
