Firstly you need to know the model. but genericly, dissassemble the ignition lock, and behind the part the key goes into, will be a little plastic turn switch, if the car has an imobiliser this wont work, but you should just be able to turn that switch over to "start", then back to "on" when its running,

Don't believe everything you see in movies. "Hot-wiring" a car is done by getting to the wires going to the ignition switch, and just connecting them together the same way the switch would if you were turning it. However, most vehicles include a steering wheel interlock so they can't be driven without turning the key switch; many newer vehicles have a key-based or switch-based anti-theft system so that you can no longer start a car this way even if you know one wire from another; and the wires aren't as easy to get to as they used to be.

This is why there aren't so many cars stolen by "hot-wiring", as opposed to the relatively simple method of sticking a gun in the owner's face.

If it's a late model car, get a duplicate from a dealer. The keys are electronically encoded to the vehicle and it's generally not possible to start it without the properly paired key.

Take a two pole push button switch, connect two wires to one lug and one wire to the other, connect the single wire to the input side of starter solenoid, connect the other wires to battery positive and positive input of coil. When you push the button this will give power to the starter so it will start car, the other wires give positive voltage to the coil so it will remain running.

go to the dealer, with identidication and the title and registration to the car and the VIN number, they can look up the code and cut you a new key, get two while you are there.
It's better to do this than to start tearing up some expensive stuff under the dash.
