My PC has a normal CD Drive, but a couple of weeks ago, when I went into My Computer, the normal drive wasn't there (basically, it didn't have that CD picture and the drive letter, D like it usually has)! That meant that even if I inserted a CD my PC STILL wouldn't read it. I went into Device Manager and it said there was a problem with the drivers for it or something like that..any ideas on how I can get it to work?!

If you've tried everything else like rebooting then the problem could be a faulty drive or just a faulty driver to sort the drivers out go into the device manager again and right click on the faulty drive and click uninstall when it's done reboot the computer windows will then detect your drive as new hardware and install drivers for it

There are a couple of things you can do. Go into the device mananger and remove your cd drive, then reboot your computer. Do not worry if the device manager prompts you that you are removing something, because when you restart your computer, Windows will automatically re-install the drive.
You could also try to search over the internet for a driver file to fix the problem.
If all else fails, and you really want to fix it, go to Compusa and they should do it for about thirty bucks, but if you ask me that's a waste of money because you can buy a dvd writer brand new at a good computer supply store for about thirty bucks. Of course, you have to install it yourself, but it's easy if you put effort into it. Just google on how to install it, and you should be able to find a page that tells you how to do it.

Did you try rebooting your computer. I would go to the help screen on my computer for the manufacturer and contact them and see if you can do a download for the CD device to get the drives etc. for it. You could normally run the back up CD but since the CD player won't work this option isn't available.

Check for the CDrom drive in the device manager. If it is present, right-click on it, uninstall it and reboot. The system will detect it and reinstall it automatically.

If this doesn't work, try reseating the ribbon cable going to the cd drive on both sides of the cable

Perhaps you need to update your driver for it. If that doesn't work, perhaps the cable inside of the computer came disconnected.
