The main difference is the spelling.
~~Just a little humor~~
The two parties try to live up to their basic objectives --
Democrats -- liberal
Republicans -- conservative

The U.S. has the Constitution for guidance. Each Party wants their interpretation made lawful to the people of the United States.

Take abortion, for instance. The Democrat/liberals want a woman to have the right to choose...over 42 million abortions have occurred since Roe v. Wade, the law that allows abortion. The law does not favor the child that would be part of the social structure--contribute to the work force, pay taxes, and in general make America function better with American born citizens rather than importing foreigners to keep the work force going. Many foreigners do not contribute to our society financially, but send money 'home' yet they use our social structures, like schools & hospitals.

The Republicans view the Roe v. Wade law as killing the child. And though they believe in capital punishment and going to war in defense of our Country, they don't believe in killing babies.

The Roe v. Wade decision was made by a Supreme Court which seated more liberal/Democrat appointed Judges than conservative/Republican appointed Judges. Which shows why there are such fights over the appointment of Judges. Each Party wants the Judgeship of America to rule the way they interpret the laws and the Constitution.

There's usually two sides, or more, to every argument. Which one is right or wrong depends on whether the person deciding wants the law to go in his/her favor.

The subject is much deeper than this simple example. I recommend you study each Party's code of ethics or whatever they're calling their Party's rules and guidelines.

Your spelling could be improved by using the Spell check afforded by Yahoo. Which sometimes works and other times it keeps spinning and not finding errors.....oh, well, try anyway for the times when it does work.
Thanks for the question.

Quite a few good answers in this one aside from the few one liners or we are smart you are stupid ones.
I do have to agree the Democrats have slowly moved to the socialist side of the fence for the masses, but that does not mean the people in power should follow by the same rules. They want to make more laws to protect you from yourself, and if there already is a law about that make another with slight rewording instead of enforcing the ones on the book. As said there are a few hot button issues where the two parties are polarized, and more reason why people shouldn't be so blind and vote outside the two party system. One of the huge things that worries me about Democrats is them stripping of our rights that they think we don't need.
Republicans on the other hand also get very centered and very blind when it comes to big business corruption. We need to have people not be so hard lined on the extremes and look for a common ground and more more to the middle. As long as we keep with the bitter hostility like we have now things are going to do nothing but get worse.

Today's democratic party is far more influenced by socialists then ever before. The republican party is less conservative then it used to be. If you were to look back in history, you would find that democrats like John Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey were more like today's republicans then today's democrats. Most of today's republicans are less conservative than Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan.

Lyndon Johnson really started the push toward the big government in modern history using FDR's model. The democratic party has been on the socialist down slide ever since.

Most democrats are liberals; most republicans are conservative. Democrats are good looking and know how to play the camera, but will smile and give safe answers to get elected. Republicans tend to have so much money that they can safely speak their mind because even if they don't win, they'll be fine. Repubs have a clearer agenda of what they would like to do and Dems don't won't to change the system too much.

As with any two-party system, the differences are minimal between the two parties. There are several issues on which the parties differ and these are magnified to make it seem as though these are two essentially different and opposing sets of ideas, but a study of the policy enacted by both parties while in power very clearly demonstrates that the differences are negligible.
