I believe it goes back to instinct.
Since our mating behavior is driven by our instinctive need to ensure the passing of our DNA to a new generation, it is vital to choose a mate that will survive childbirth AND be physically able to provide for the Male's heirs. Breasts signify a woman is Old enough to reproduce and Healthy enough to survive childbirth...
A woman with healthy,large breasts looks healthy enough to bear children and appears to be able to feed her offspring.
Also, the woman's breasts are the most plainly visible secondary sexual trait. Since women go to such lengths to paint and disguise their faces (minimizing the "adult" features and trying to enlargen the eyes-- in other words trying to recreate a child-like face) The first and most reliable visible secondary sexual trait is the breast.

While I admit an appreciation for breasts, I prefer they remain covered and out of eyeshot... As a gay man I just do not find any attraction to them... Hence the gay thing

Honestly, I think breast is an extra load on woman, they have to feed because of breast and its too soft compare to man's chest. They can't run fast. So, in reality its a great liability not asset. But God made so that he created great attraction in man for this, and hence such a greate liability become one of the greatest attraction to men which now is an great asset.

i think this goes back to primitive times, before communication. when procreation was top priority, men and women wanted to make sure they had the perfect mate in order to make perfect babies that will live on and make more babies. shapley hips and bigger breasts equated to a healthy "ready-to-carry-a-child" body. and that is why most men like boobs and curves baby!
