My concern is if Kevin Rudd does not become the champion for the unions what is stopping Ms Gillard mounting a challenge and becoming prime minister .

If Kevin Rudd does not win, i will be far too ashamed of my fellow countrymen and women to continue living in this great country any longer. I couldn't stand to see my beloved Australia go further and further down the gurgler with that Howard jerk.
I think Rudd is doing a pretty good job so there isn't really a need for Gillard to challenge him at this point in time.

She is there as the token female (not saying she isnt qualified) but the ALP has had a policy (in house) of having women in "second" positions. If Ms GIllard is really that supported why wasn't Beazly more inclined to make her the 2IC of the ALP in his day? Oh... wait he already had a right had man and a left hand woman...
Not likely.
I wont comment on the election results - quite simply its too early to call it - just think every other election Howard has faced he's been "behind" in the polls right up until the night of the election then suddenly we all get cold feet and think "better the devil you know"....
