I am 18 years old and I have my GED but there is no one in my town that is hiring. I'm not rich and don't have the gas to work anywhere else. If I could find a job, I can fix my car and my boyfriend and I can save up money to move to a city where jobs are available. The first step is the hardest I know, but how is one to get past it? I am willing to do everything I can to make decent wages. I am deperate!!!

Some stores don't advertise when they are hiring. Try going into the stores, ask to speak with the manager and ask the manager if they are hiring. Most often they will say, either yes, or tell you that they are accepting applications. Tell them you'll take an application and then ask "do you know when you will start hiring?" Most managers will take you more seriously and either give you the information, or say "I'll need to check." Take the application home, fill it out and then within a couple of days call the store and ask them if they have had time to check over your application and again ask them when they will be hiring. If they keep telling you they aren't sure when they will be hirring next, then keep calling them and making sure they know that you are still interested in working for them.

I hear you, loud and clear.

People like you have all my attention.

Jobs are slowly disappearing...thanks to technology and downsizing.

I would suggest you move to a larger, growing location, and then go into civil service by taking exams for either police, fire personnel or mail delivery.

Otherwise, there is no corporation willing to keep you there just for the sake of creating jobs...those days are now long gone.

Also, consider writing or calling your elected officials explaining that there are not many opportunities for the younger generations..and they need to do something to get businesses hiring and keeping people...with all the dignity going with a good paying job with a future.

Good luck!
