Well done for getting the drinking under control and for gods sake don't take it up again because of internet addiction. I am kind of in the same situation and I bought a laptop and now I only go to the pub once a week but I can easily spend 8 hours a day online (and yes I also have a full time job). Look at it this way you're either meeting people or finding things out and you're off the booze. Stay on the internet and give the liver and the bank balance chance to recover!

Don't worry so much about it! Getting over an alcohol addiction is no mean feat and if it takes getting hooked on the internet then that's really not so bad.

Internet addictions are much easier to crack, but give yourself time. It's not something that you have to cold turkey on, anyway. You could cut down on your time surfing by forcing yourself to go out; go to the local shop (if you have one) and buy a newspaper, then sit and read it instead of reading online.

I do agree with the earlier post that getting some kind of life away from your desk is a really good idea in the long run, but you'll figure that out when you need to.

All the best - and go easy on yourself:)

I've been clean for 11 years and I've never looked back.

One thing for sure is to listen to the woman two posts up, forget about your internet addicton. 3 months without alcohol is great, but you have many more "one day at a times" ahead of you as long as you dont pick up a drink again.

Do not let some obsession with being addicted to the internet lead you back to alcohol. Being addicted to the internet, contrary to popular belief, is not that severe a problem, nor is it nearly as hard to crack as alcohol addiction. In my early years of recovery I was addicted to cigarettes, stealing, staying up late (idiotic, I know), sex, and a few others. But in time, most of these have resolved themselves. As long as you don't drink today you can learn to overcome the other stuff with a little patience, a lot of willingness, and a strong sense of humility.

If you continue dilligently in your program you will most likely develop other addicitions to other things, and while for your long term health and well being it is important to recognize and address them, for now I would simply be glad that you're not drinking. For now and for many years to come.

It's kinda like focusing on healing a small cut on your arm rather than nursing the gaping wound in your stomach, if you can relate?

Good for you for getting off the drink, it's funny you come on here to ask because many people on this site complain of being addicted, try to get out more often, join some hobby clubs or do some craft work, it could be you have an addictive personality, why not try to get some councilling.

First of all, well done on recognising your addiction and for getting over your alcohol addiction.
However, I would advise you to go to counselling. You have swapped one addiction for another and, after spending time in psychology, I can tell you that addicitions are a way dealing with something in your past or replacing something in your past that is/was missing. The only way to find out what it is and how to get over it to talk to someone. I myself went through counselling and it helped me deal with things in my past and I am a great advocate of it now. It really does help more than you can possibly think.

You have just changed deckchairs on the titantic dude. Addiction will pop up in other areas unless you get to the root cause. Go to an AA meeting to help with the alcohol addiction and maybe see a therapist.

Use your knowlage of the net to search out a hobby that would get your intelegance working, I did that and my wife joined in and it became a full time job and a good sorce of income .and although I am now retired, I still do enough to keep me going
Or another sujestion why dont you set up a web site to help others get over there addition, someone helped you, this would give you the opertunity to help as well

When you find something interesting, read about it. Then go out and do it. Once you start trying fun things in full-force you'll aways want to do things in real life. Plus, being sober makes it more interesting.

get addicted to things like golf, soccer basketball. Things that are good for your body. You obviously have a very addictive personality. so use it to get into things that will be good for your body rather then things that only hurt you. also see a counselor for their advice.
