do I take 1ml of the 1 molar solution and dilute in 1000 mls of water again and so on for 0.2m, 0.3m etc ? Any help appreciated thanks

You could also take 1/10 the amount of 1M and add it to 9 parts water.

Take .1 of your mole of NaCl and put it in a 100 mL volumetric flask. Fill to the line with pure water and mix.

assuming you don't care about the water content in your mols I would say your method is logical, makes sense to me, but we just started mols I can calculate a little but thats all :p
