They hide in there. Thing is they wait until you toss out the mate, and then they appear. It really is a sock conspiracy.

there is an evil troll that lives in the decrease back of all dryers. the factorys that make the socks have a deal going with the those that make the dryers. the those that make the dryers placed little residences in the decrease back of the dryers for the trolls that are paid for by using the those that make the socks. the trolls consume the socks and that they are very very hungry!!! purely ask all and sundry.

All dryers are connected with a special, socks-only, interdimensional black hole. Sometimes a sock gets sucked in at one end and comes out at the other, in a dryer that can be hundreds or thousands of miles away.

I think it's from someone who left it in there before you used the dryer. What I really want to know is where do my socks go when I put them in the dryer. I ended up with way less socks then I had bought, where did they go?
