my wife and i would like to legally change our names for various reasons, nothing bad, but we really don't know how to do it or if it costs anything and if so how much?

I'm 99% sure you don't need a lawyer. You would need to contact your local Circuit Court and ask to speak to someone about this. I'm pretty sure it's just the formality of completing a form, paying a court fee and that's it. I think the only stipulation is that you can't change your name to a four letter word.

In most states it costs around $250. You file for a name change with the county court that you live in and go before the judge, answer a few questions as to why you want to change your name and some states require you to run an add in the local paper.

I got a lawyer, filled out the papers, paid $150.00 AND HE TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING.
