Replace the governor inside the transmission. This is the piece that determines the shift points.

The Clutch plate is probably worn to the point where you dont have enough movement in your clutch fork to release the pressure plate, either that or your clutch cable needs adjusting. so go to a mechanic and ask them to adjust the cable, or if its hydraulic, get them to replace the clutch assy, this should not cost more than $300 aus, or if it only needs adjustment, $50aus

make sure the plug on the trany is tight it is next to to dipstick.
other than that sound like it is in limp mode or safe mode. not good. limp mode is when second and third stay engaged when the trany fails. So you don't have to walk home.

Drive really slow....
or see a mechanic that specializes in stick shifts, or oil your gears...or the stick itself....
