While there is some increased risk for a low-birth-weight infant, being only two weeks behind is not necessarily a cause for concern. "Normal" birth weight is highly variable, and just because your baby weighs a LITTLE less than average doesn't mean that he/she will be at a life-long disadvantage. If your baby is very small, he/she will be kept in a neonatal ICU until ready to go home; it happens all the time, and it's rarely a huge problem for a full-term infant.

don't be demanding too lots, your infant is far less then a pound under weight and the margin for errors on estimating fetal weight is a pound one way or yet another. Your infant alright might desire to be the first 5.5 lbs at 36 weeks or larger and you in elementary terms don't be attentive to it. there is a lot of time to boost between now and then. the first infant born at 40 weeks is approximately 7.5 lbs. this is 2 finished lbs in 4 weeks. Even that places your infant at 6lbs 12oz, merely shy of 7lbs. this is a sturdy length infant. no longer small for gestational age in any respect. Dont project, each and every thing will artwork out ok. BTW all my mom's young little ones have been born at 6lbs and much less and we are all healthful, so no concerns.

dear ,

i had same type of problem. and i am sharing my experience. my daughter born before 2 and half years ago .. as you know about the your baby we were also aware of the same that she is going to be low weight one.
first of all

1. dont get nervous... if doctors are good i am sure they will be everything will be perfectly alright.

2. intially you have to take care... make sure at time of her birth neonatal-child doctor has to be there.

3. give her exclusive breast feeding

4. dont allow every one to touch her.

5. protect well.. at least for one year

6. you may suffer some problem till kid is 5 year like getting infection oftern and all that but tha t is fine

bye and take care

by the way my daughter is only 10kg after 2 and half year but she is the most active girl in her play group .

My baby was full term, but only 4 lbs 11 ounces. The doctor said she had failure to thrive while in utero so she didn't grow normally. She looked the same as a bigger baby, and has no lasting problems. I don't know if this is the norm or if your baby will have problems, but try not to worry.

Low birth weight means you should be careful since such babies are prone to infection easily.

2 week growth retardation is not too bad but obviously if the gap widens then more wil need to be done. You may just have a small baby and that does not mean there is anything wrong with him/her.
