Until 1997, a fully developed organism could not be cloned. However, many researchers have used twinning techniques to replicate embryos. This reproductive process is actually an embryo twinning process , but is called, somewhat misleadingly, "embryo cloning." Agricultural scientists are experimenting with this "embryo cloning" process with animal embryos to improve upon and increase the production of livestock. The first successful attempt at producing live animals by embryo cloning occured in Edinburgh, Scotland and was reported in the March 6, 1996 edition of Nature .
