guru is definatly the best movie among the recent times. reasons are below..
1. it is superb direction - hats of to mani ratanam who is tamil to present gujarati culture so well
2. really power packed performance by Abhishek - i am not fan of him but this is really good perfornace
3. aishwarya first time in her career looks comfortable and not like wax doll. she looks real may be love can do that
4. yeah it is definatly based on late shri dhirubhai ambani's life. i am gujrati and g8 fan of dhirubhai .. almost 99% things are from dhirubhai's life.
5. infact fighting and ego clashes with new papers and another business man is also 100% based on dhirubhai's life.. ( ramnath goyenka -indian excpress and wadia family of bombay dying)
6. i rate this movie 9/10

Guru is an interesting movie. As an Indian who did not grow up in India and was thus unaquainted with D Ambani, this movie interested me enough to read up on him. I will say the movie is largely based on whatever is publicly known about Mr Ambani - with a fair amount of cinematic licence.
As a movie, it is comparatively good. The performances are above average (I was very disappointed not see more of Mithun Chakraborty). Purely as a cinematic artform this film is ok. As a work of Mani Ratnam, it is disappointing - it seems he is starying from his trademark hardhitting style and trying to cater to the masses. As a story to relate to, I was aghast at what seemed like a justification for a character so deviod of ethics and compassion.
All in all, it is not classic cinema, it is not as engaging as Rang de Basanti, but is it is good enough. I will give it 6.5 - and mostly for the perfomances.

i just liked it. actually i didn't understand some of the dialogues. i would rate 5 and half out of 10. i agree that it was based on dheeru bhai ambani. its inspiring too.
