generation of electricity is purely based on the demand and supply theory. the amount of electricity saved is an index to the effect that the fuel supplied to the boilers is reduced and the steam generated is controlled and thus the production of electricity is reduced. This saves the resources like the coal which are depleating day by day.the same is the case with hydroelectricity generation as well. The water in the dam is saved for better use of irrigation and drinking. The nuclear fuel like Uranium is saved thus saving the atmosphere from pollution due to radiation in the form of nuclear waste.

"saving electricity" means not consuming it without need.. just like tightening up wash-basins' tap after wash...so that the amount saved is available for future use...when actual need comes..
