No, that's incorrect...I saw that same article and you have your facts mixed up...Scientific American was the magazine I think.
It was comparing adult European and American knowledge about the solar system and one of the questions was
What is the name for the star in our solar system?
(that was a hint right there)...
Of the Europeans....only 22% knew that it was the Sun.
Of the Americans....89% recognized that the Sun is a star.

If I can find that link I'll post it.

Just watch that crazy show Smarter Than A Fifth Grader. I flipped past it and had to notice the gal didn't know what country was north of the US border. Bad acting or really really sad.
