Hi all. I want to purchase an air cooler. I am a bachelor and living alone in Chennai. I cant afford A/C. Is it worthy to buy an air cooler? Will it be effective? The temperature in Chennai in April, May, June is around 40 degree celcius. It may touch even 43 to 45 in mid May. The humidity is nearly 100%. Any one in the refrigeration field or persons knowledgeble in coolers may Please help me in this regard.

You must purchase an Air Conditioner and NOT an Air Cooler.
Air Coolers are effective in dry area, like Delhi. That's why they are called desert coolers. If you purchase an air cooler it will only increase your discomfort during high humidity period. The air is passed over the water shower in an air cooler. Thus the air contains water vapour. This will further increase the water content in the air inside the room, which already contains high water due to higher humidity. You will perspire more leading to your discomfort level.
On the other hand an Air Conditioner not only cools the room, it dehumidifies the air. An air conditioner can reduce the RH to about 50-60%. Therefore you will feel more comfort in an air conditioned room.
Go for an Air Conditioner.

really depends on the average humidity of your area if it is low - like 5-25% most of the time when it's hot Air cooler ( and the ones we had in Texas - could nearly freeze us out However, if it's like Florida - 75-90% or high humidity Air conditioner - the air cooler can not evaporate water at a high enough rate all the best

Yes ,you can purchase not ne but two god brand air colers and put some ice pieces in the water in the cooler/how about power supply?Is it uninterrupted?If it is all right.Tif not AC or air cooler bth are same.Definitely you will have some comfort friend.

yes cooler is good put ice water in cooler you will get cool air like a/c

I lived in Singapore for a while and we used these moble units that were based on water and a fan.

u should go to the shop and buy a desert cooler
