I have been applying hydrogen peroxide and neosporin and had used a large bandage until yesterday when I ran out of bandages. It is still red and hasn't scabbed over yet & shows sign of infection I believe - itching and burning is the main symptom.
Do I need to see a doctor or should I try applying some other kind of topical medicine?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Alright, I'm convinced I should call the doctor & at least get a tetanus shot, since the cage was metal. Other than that, I will just have to see what the doctor says. Thanks for all of the responses so far, I appreciate it.

The peroxide is keeping the wound moist, and the bandaids may be doing the same thing.
My suggestion...a day or 2 exposed to air to allow it to scab, and if no better, call your physician.

Hydrogen peroxide is only used repeatedly if pus is being cleaned. Too much of it if not necessary may prevent natural healing. Seeing a dermatologist or any general physician is necessary if healing is not prompt. An antibiotic may be necessary. Before doing so, try to simply clean it with water, do not bandage it unless the wound is gaping, and use moderate neosporin. Let it air dry. If no relief, see your doctor. If you haven't gotten a tetanus booster shot lately, now may be a good time to get one.

Duh! Get it checked out by a doctor. Don't you read the directions on medications? Neosporin specifically states to see a doctor if the condition does not heal or gets worse, or you have to use for longer than one week, or if symptoms of an infection occur. Oh yeah...and if the cage was metal, you may want to consider a tetanus shot as well. Now go buy some more bandages!

A week is too long to wait for healing. If tetanus was introduced, you're too late for the regular shot. You only have 3 days until the regular shot is effective. Do you have diabetes? Is it possible something got into the wound? If you haven't gone yet, you should.

I think that if your sore is 'weeping pus' or is 'sore and burning and itching' then you really should 'see a doctor' ... the 'puppy cage' may have some 'bad bacteria' that got into your body through the 'cut' and it may take 'antibiotics' in pill or shot form to get you 'over it' ...

maybe the cut is to deep. But its probly too late for stitches.. try adding a tiny bit of neosporin then letting it air dry all day. keeping it covered with a bandade will slow down the healing process. Skin needs air to heal. keep it clean if in two day you see no progress go see a doctor

Stop using hydrogen peroxide. Its a one time disinfectant. Let it dry out. If not healing visibly in two days go to a clinic or your doctor.

nicely, first of all, you ought to end scratching your self with plastic. that is exciting you will possibly even call that a "decrease". As for the itching, attempt rubbing some lotion into those dry scratches.

PLEASE GO SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY! SOME BAD BACTERIA (STAPH) MAY HAVE GOTTEN INTO YOUR WOUND. IF THE PEROXIDE OR NEOSPORIN HASN'T HELPED, YOU MAY NEED ANTIBIOTICS TO STOP THE INFECTION BEFORE IT SPREADS, OR TURNS INTO GANGRENE LIKE MY CUT DID!
