OK, I'm not really a people person. I don't talk much and when I work with peeps in groupwork and all that, I want to start a conversation but I have no idea what to say! It's really awkward and I want to make the work a bit more interesting for everyone. Lots of other people seem to know what to talk about all the time and drag it on for hours and hours. Any tips?

Note: Other people usually talk about things Im interested in and I have lots to say about that topic. But they're not exactly the type of people I'd like to talk to lol, everyone is so outgoing!

***DON'T WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT TO SAY. THE KEY TO A GOOD CONVERSATION IS TO GET THE OTHER PERSON TALKING ABOUT THEMSELVES FIRST, THEN YOU CAN SEGWAY INTO TOPICS THAT INVOLVE YOU. JUST ASK SOMEONE HOW ARE YOU TODAY, OR HOW IS YOUR DAY, AND IT WILL MOST LIKELY LEAD INTO A CONVERSATION. GOOD LUCK.***

Thank god I'm not the only one. Other people always seem to know how to start a really good conversation, but I'm absolutely hopeless! Trouble is, I can't be doing with mundane discussions about weather n stuff. I find that the only way to get conversations started is to ask someone about themselves or their family - that always seems to open things up. Trouble is, by the time I've plucked up the courage to ask a question without sounding stupid, someone else has asked it and it's too late!
Just feel secure in the knowledge that you're not alone.

Groupwork is hard to get ones piece in. I'll bet your the only communicator in the room. They adore nervousness and feed if you shake. Obviously they don't say anything and have mastered the art of counter-intelligence because I don't have a better word. Just put in a sentence or two or say, I choose not to speak today, pass. If you sense a receptive mind, speak directly to that person to try and start a dialouge.

Look around. See if there is anything worth pointing out. Sure, talking about the weather is a cliche, but if there's something unusual about it--bam!--you've got a great topic of conversation.
Offer a compliment. Don't lie and say you love someone's hair when you think it's revolting, but if you like his or her shoes, or a handbag, say so. A sincere compliment is a wonderful way to get someone to warm up to you. But be careful not to say something so personal that you scare the person off or make him or her feel uncomfortable. It is best not to compliment a person's looks or body.
Ask questions! People love to talk about themselves --- get them going.

Ask if they had good weekends and then mention the weather and say if there are any good films that they could recommend as your and your friends fancy an evening out at the cinema as you haven't been for a while

people talks about certain things like politic , social subjects, morality etc.. most of them dont know how to talk and of course nobody knows the 'truth' to the subjects of the conversation. just start a conversation or join to one. and see deeper in you, maybe they dont talk about things that interest you or they dont respect the other talker, maybe that's why you don't talk a lot. humans are social animals, its helpfull to have conversations. f*** stress and anxiety.

Ask them how they're doing or comment on the weather...go on from there. If you know what they do, talk about that or ask them questions even if you are not interested in what they're into..

Ask a dumb question like "do you like cheese?" (ok maybe not that question). Make them laugh, comment on something they are doing. Ask "how was your day?" You can keep it simple and get a lot out of people.
