I had one last year, ( OUCH pain) and my doc told me six weeks, these things take a long time to heal, just cause it doesnt look much on the outside, the inside takes a long time to heal.

You should be able to drive shortly after, I don't remember how long they said, but it wasn't long at all.
And as far as carrying, they said nothing heavier than my baby.
But lifting is where the real danger is. They tell you 6 weeks for lifting more than a few pounds, and you should wait at least 6 weeks. They don't tell you what the consequences are for breaking that rule. They really should, more people would listen, including me. I bent over and lifted our 30 pound dog out from the other side of a table, 3 weeks after I had my ceasarean. Tore the incision most of the way open. It didn't bleed, and I didn't know I had torn it open until I saw the doctor next (though I had suspected) They can't just stitch you back up. They have to treat it like an open wound ... they pack it with cotton soaked in peroxide and then you have to have someone clean out the wound and change the packing for you 4 times per day for weeks. It's impossible to do it yourself. And then you are on super light duty, because it's so easy to rip it open more once it's open. It takes forever to heal that way. It's a nightmare.

6-8 weeks until you can legally drive. It is the braking action and the clutch control that is weaker after you have a caesarian as it affects all your abdominal muscles. Even after that time if you don;t feel able or ready to drive don't. My daughter was in intensive care after she was born and it was awful not being able to jump in the car and go and see her but it's for safety! Lifting anything heavier than the equivalent of your baby takes a bit longer (well it did for me). Just take things easy and at your own pace. You'll also not be able to use a sling for your baby straight away (the type that sits like a front backpack). It heals really quickly though really considering that you've just had major abdominal surgery! Good luck!

Here is where a bit of sexual discrimination comes in. A man who has an abdominal op, and is a manual labourer will be told no lifting for 8-12 weeks. You as a woman will end up lifting, loading and carrying baby in days! Driving should be OK in a week-10 days if you are not too sore.

My doctor made me wait 2 weeks to drive and 8 weeks before lifting/carrying anything heavier than my son. The weight limit for the first 8 weeks was 10 lb. They want you to be completely healed though because your ab muscles have been cut through and if you're still not fully healed, you could tear your incision open.

they say 6 weeks to lift light stuff and do light house work driving you should be alright with as well although you might feel alright in yourself remember this was a big op and the inside of your body takes longer any heavy lifting can cause internal hemorrhaging so be careful in what you do for at least 6 months this is what my doctor told me but if your a new mum then congratulations to you all .but please be careful .

As much as possible, get plenty of bed rest . You do not want your sutures to tear. Lifting heavy objects is a no no for at least two months. One can carry light objects about 5 pounds or less after 1-2 weeks. Driving perhaps after a week if extremely necessary. Too much exertion may tear the suture.

AT LEAST 6 weeks. a Cesarean is a major surgery and takes a long time to heal. as for driving, think about a seat belt locking on around your stomach if you made an emergency stop.

Usually 6 to 8 weeks.
Remember it is major abdominal surgery you have had. it takes a while for the muscles and tissue to heal.
Don't be to hasty to do things.
