When an actor/actress/director etc. sign on with a production company (Warner Brothers, Sony, etc.) to work on more than one film with that company. Once the deal is signed, then the signee is contractually bound to work in the specified number of movies before the contract can be considered fulfilled.

I believe that the Harry Potter actors (some of them, anyways) signed a multi-picture deal for the first two or three flicks. If they didn't it is still a good example, as you see this mostly with sequels and multi-parted movies.
