I just took some cough drops. I don't think it messd up my kid, but I haven't given birth yet. You could try drinking some tea with lemon and honey. That can't hurt you as far as I know. Try taking hot showers, the steem always helps me when I have a cold or cough. Ice cream could help with soothing, if not it would just be a good treat anyways.
Asking a doctor is your best bet. They know a lot more then us internet junkies.

This is not rocket science but until you know from your Dr. for sure what is safe wet a washcloth with cold water and ring it out and fold it up wrap a dry towel on the outside of it and safety pin the towel with the cool rag on your throat. Pretty basic I know, but that's what my Mom always did and it seemed to help me sleep better at night and not cough so much. And you can suck on those natural herb cough drops or fruit ones.

Being in your first trimester, it is better to try something natural. Lemon on its own helps but you can add honey as well.

Lemon and honey are great - just squeeze a few lemons and add honey to the lemon juice, mix well and then drink - you can drink this several times a day and it will help with your cough.
