Because if you fit in, things are easier. People, especially younger people, like being popular, being in the center of attention and enjoying the benefits of that. They don't realize the costs and the sacrifices they have to make to fit in. A lot of them are really insecure (especially in the teenage years) and they feel the need for others to reaffirm their identity, their status, their worth.
I never fit in. Though my parents did a great job and I had a couple of really good friends, I felt it a little bit in secondary school. But by high school it was over. For a long time now, I am glad to stand out.

I don't stand out and I don't try to fit in, I'm happy being the boy sitting on the corner alone..

some people try very hard to fit in because they crave for affirmation & approval. sometimes people can also lack an identity trying so hard to find a mould to fit in.
Give these people acceptance in moderation & tell them its alot more better for them to be themselves.
