First of all make sure its something you really want to do and if you're sure its what you want, then come join all us producers!! right now a friend of mine is a film student and I produce all his films (5 so far). My first piece of advice is to get really good people and communication skills because half the time you will be setting up deals, getting support, promoting the project, pitching the project, etc. Good ways to get these skills are by acting in plays, being in a debate club, giving speeches, and teaching a class. Trust me when I say that teaching will really improve your interpersonal skills - I know it did mine. Basically just build up you're gift for gab. That's step #1. Secondly as a film producer you need a very good sense of storytelling, I would recommend reading as many books and stories as possible (as well as watching films) and always analyzing what you've read. Why is this character interesting where another fails? those sorts of things, this way when it comes time to make decisions about the actual film (such as eliminating scenes or altering the script) you will be confident in your decision making skills. Some other things that help are at least a rudimentary knowledge of business so you can make schedules and budgets and gather funding, but most of that is just work. The last step is to just get out there and start producing! Good luck man, its a really fun and challenging field, and seeing your efforts realized on the big screen can be very rewarding (even if its only at a film festival- lol)

Raise a lot of cash and learn economics and about business first. Producing is 90% fundraising.
