Tommy Toys and R&G while quite good are rather overpriced for Chinese food.
My personal suggestions for Chinese food in Chinatown are
Louis Dim Sum - On Stocton just before Broadway. Take out only, but wonderful har gow and pork buns. Get a box of dim sum and walk to Portsmouth Square Kearny at Washington and have lunch! Lunch for two under $12!
Henry's Hunan on Sacramento at Kearney - A hole in the wall but great food. Don't miss the Diana's Meat Pie.

I don't know the name of the restaurant but it is just up the street from the parking garage that is underneath the park. It is maybe 1/2 block up and across the st from the park. It is the only park in Chinatown where all the older men hang out playing checkers. It is on the corner next to an alley and you do have to go upstairs. I remember there is red carpeting or flooring. They have the best dim sum and whatever else you may want to try. They always give us complementary green tea ice cream for dessert, which is the BEST I have ever had. I hope you are able to find it, it is easy to see. Also go to the fortune cookie factory on Ross Alley. They have the best cookie in town. Have fun!

DO NOT EAT IN ANY RESTAURANT on 'the main street' in Chinatown in SF. Go down 'all the alleys' and look for a little 'hole in the wall' restaurant, because that is where you will get the 'food' that is eaten by the Chinese who live in SF and who love 'really good Chinese food.' I've been there and 'done that' (I was taken by some Chinese I'd done some work for) and it was definitely THE BEST CHINESE FOOD I've ever eaten.

Tommy Toys is way overpriced for Chinese food, and is a tourist trap. Not an authentic atmosphere. On the other hand, hole in the walls may freak you out a bit because it may not be the cleanest places but they do have great food. R&G Lounge is good, so is Youngs Cafe. They are both on Kearny St. close to the financial district.

R & G Lounge is about the only one I like in the Chinatown area. I was taken their by a chinese friend and most of the people there were chinese so I think I can safely recommend it. It's a block or so away from Grant St. and pretty safe from tourists.

The upstairs place with the red carpet is 4 seas. It's good, but perhaps not quite as authentic as you'd like. They do have some really good dishes though, their clay pot dishes tend to be very good and full of uncommon ingredients. I hear their ginger crab is also very good. My husband and I went to House of Nan King, and it was excellent, but again, not as authentic as you might be looking for. Best of luck on your search. :)

evaluate giving them a present certificates to a eating place this is the two in San Francisco and their domicile city. circumstances might ward off the newlyweds from traveling your selected eating place for the duration of their honeymoon ~ they might nonetheless use the present certificates at a later date and at their entertainment.
