Excellent question. Its a difficult choice but I would go for Sequoia and Kings Canyon.
It is a humbling experience being close to those majestic living things. It gives a diferent perspective on life. I think it must have that effect on many people because there was a hushed atmosphere like when you visit a major cathederal here in Europe.
Its run a close second in my opinion by Redwood for exactly the same reasons even though the tree species is different.

Yosemite, Yellowstone, Zion. Grand Canyon.
Then there's the Golden Circle in Utah.
We've camped at these parks for a few days to two weeks at a time.
We've lucked out getting into Yosemite by calling to see if there were cancellations.
The other Parks we made reservation a few weeks in advance.
Be flexible and you'll have a good time.
As for the why, well, get a few books from the library and check out the parks. A picture is worth a million words.

Yosemite in California. it is so superb: from the Redwood groves, history in the village, stress to Glacier factor and hiking to the suitable of 0.5 Dome or short hikes as you hop off the return and forth. Dine on the historic Ahwahnee inn. And in case you have time for a stress to Hetch Hetchey around the corner it extremely is plenty quieter and intensely dramatic too.

Yellowstone,
Grand Canyon,
Mammoth Cave.
Just for the majesty of it!
I really hate to make a choice because I haven't seen them all yet.
