No, of course not. We are not savages any longer, simply at the mercy of our caveman instincts to procreate at any cost. We are; for the most part; thinking, rational, human beings. Men don't cheat because of gentics, they cheat because society says they can.

To illistrate: I'd suspect that at some point in our history men, like dogs still do, probably found and ate their own feces because they were programmed genetically to eat anything they could to survive. At some later point in time one of our collective (and highly underrated) ancestors decided there were probably better things to eat than our own feces if he were to just hunt or gather a little more.
The genetic drive to eat anything to survive remains even after the discovery of this most wonderful of our ancestors, but, other than a few whacko internet sites, most people don't eat their own feces. Does this mean men are naturally feces eaters? (Be nice ladies) No, it does not. We are rationally capable of overriding our underlying genetics in order to find more nutritious foods. Fortunatly for us it is not considered "cool" to eat out own feces so we hear very few liars bellowing about how much poo poo they ate over the weekend.
I would say the same argument applies to this question. Rational men are capable of understanding that one good woman is far better than many...err...less than savory ladies.

Contrary to popular belief men have plenty of feelings too, it's just that it's considered feminine to express them. This doesnt mean those feelings don't exist in men, it just means that those feelings are repressed in many ways. Thus the argument that men are incapable of feeling as women do is highly dubious. Men simply won't share those observations like women would, giving them the illusion of being unfeeling in certain ancedotal social situations. If men were incapable of putting themselves in another's place we would still be those cavemen.

What all this means then, is that there are plenty of men who believe in and practice monogomy. The skeptics may all be laughing but perhaps it is their wives who should be scrutinizing them. I think the "men are polygamous by nature" argument is simply a cheap and extremely weak argument stupid men use to justify their unfaithfulness.

The other aspet to consider is that it's supposedly "cool" for men to cheat, so many will lie about having cheated in a vain attempt to inhance their reputations. Meaning you will recieve many more false positives when discussing the situation than you might otherwise find in some other discussion. Of course the inverse is true in women. It's not "cool" for women to cheat so less will be reported.

Perhaps that is obvious but considering the number of simple "yes" answers above I believe it needed to be spelled out.

While there is no doubt some biological credence to the argument that it makes sense genetically for a man to be polygamous- as one man can impregnate multiple women- again I have to mention that we are not cave men any longer. If it were 10,000 years ago I'd buy it. Today, that sort of nonsense is just irresponsibility mascarading as some kind of pseudoscience.

I would also mention to all the ladies who might conjecture otherwise that perhaps rather than assuming all men are as bad as the ones you've chosen to date/marry, perhaps you should analyze your skills in judging what makes a mate attractive? A recent study found that women find a man who is married to be more attractive than one who is single. Though, I don't have the link handy it is recent enough to be referenced with a quick search, I'm sure.

Perhaps if you were to give the nerdier, or less "cool" or less married guys a chance you might find you could answer this question in the negative from personal experience. (yes, this paragraph was shameless self-promotion)

I say No, to the original question posed.

You could just as easily ask this question about women. There are plenty of women that cheat on their husbands or boyfriends. Just because feminists believe men are polygamous doesn't mean it's true. Most men have the same desire to be in a relationship as women. My parents got divorced in November of 2005. My Dad really wanted to stay in the marriage, but that wasn't possible. My Mother wanted a divorce, and she was not satisfied until she got a divorce. My Mother married another man shortly after the divorce, and my Dad married another woman.

Most women are driven by emotion, as opposed to men. This might make it a bit more difficult for women to cheat, than for men, because of the guilt feelings and ability to empathize better than men (putting yourself in other's position - the expression "how would YOU feel if i...?").

How much of this belief is reality, and how much is stereotype, it's difficult to tell. Boys aren't allowed to play with dolls, "boys don't cry", "all men cheat" are ideas we hear ever since we are little kids, when don't even understand the real meaning of these words. This shows that at least to a certain extent, some men cheat because of what they know from others. These stereotypes not only allow them to cheat, but encourages them to be "men". Can we do something to change things? Probably not, and not in a year or two. What you can do as a mother for example, is avoid inducting these behaviors and beliefs to your own children and allow - as much as possible - a harmonious development away from prejudice and stereotypes.

Instinctively, yes. Insticts are the the most natural parts of any human being. And instinctively, men are driven to procreate as much as possible.

Yes. That is what the male human was made to do. Just like the female human was to bare and care for what they created together. We are animals after all is said and done.
