it's completley dead. i was listening to it last night, was about to look through my songs and it froze on the menu screen...its been like that all night, backlight still on and everything. literally nothing is happening, it won't reset, none of the buttons work, the computer doesn't pick it up...it's just stuck on the menu screen!!
anyone any idea what's wrong? and what can be done to pick it? please help!!!

good luck:

For iPod Photo, iPod mini, iPod video, and the iPod with the click-wheel, toggle the hold switch on and then off. Very quickly, then press the menu button and the selection button at the same time. Hold them until the screen resets (usually about 6 seconds).

For all other iPods, press the Play/Pause button and the Select Button (in the center of the wheel) at the same time. Hold them until the screen resets (usually about 6 seconds).

If this does not work right away, try plugging it in and then repeating the above steps while the iPod has a power supply.

Try switching the hold button on and off and then clicking on the menu and centre button at the same time until the apple logo appears. Then click the menu button and it should be back to normal. That should work but if it doesn't one of the 5 r's probably will. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

yah that happen to me also i took it to the ipod store and they said i should replace it or buy a new one so i replaced it for a new one and costed $70 bucks rip off than i got it stolen :|

CONNECT IT TO YOUR COMP TAKE A BACK UP OF ALL THE SONGS AND THEN FORMAT THE IPOD AND LATER RUN THE UPDATES
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE STEP WHEN THE ABOVE USERS TIPS DONT WORK
