i had endometriosis back when no one knew what it was, i bled constantly for three years and it became cancer, at 37 i had a total hysterectomy , it hurt like hell for a week or two, then slowly you feel better, the younger you are the better you will feel, they may put you on hormone replacement. after about 3 months you feel great and the rest of your life is much better. Oh and im now 59

Hysterectomy will not cure endometriosis. The best way to deal with it is to go to a dr who has had experience with excision (cutting out) the lesions, not just lasering the surface.

I am not sure why your dr told you that you needed a hysterectomy for your endometriosis (often when a dr says this it means they don't have much experience with treating endo surgically by removing as much of it as possible) but I encourage you to get another opinion, preferably from someone not in the same office that your dr practices in. If you have gotten a second opinion already, get another. Also, pls consider getting copies of your records to send off to top experts in endo for review for opinions as well.

In the mean time pls get to a Pain Management specialist that has experience with treating the chronic pain of gynecologic conditions such as due to endometriosis.

To learn even more about endometriosis pls check out this site: http://www.endocenter.org

Also, I know someone who had a hysterectomy at 19 due to having endo and it did not help her at all not only from the point of the endo but it caused her to have lots of other problems too.

Pls, pls, I beg of you get some more opinions. I just helped a lady out (and she was older) that was in a similar situation where she was told that she needed a hysterectomy, she got another opinion and it turns out that the dr she saw had a different way to help her problem and she won't need a hysterectomy.

Pls e-mail or IM me privately any time if you wish.

My sister had a hysterectomy 2 months ago from endo.

Actually, she said the temporary pain of the hysterectomy paled in comparison to the daily pain of the endo.

She is 34.
