I had purchase a harddisk of seagate 160 gb . I want to check that my harddisk is new or old.So how do i do this? Is there any sign , serial no. ,model no. or any other thing by which i find it out ?

Any sign Other then serial no. ,model no. . Shell we test it via a performance or any previous files which tell me the time ,date or day on which my os is installed in my HDD?

There's always a chance of someone selling you a used hard dis (160 g) by wiping out the Partition. You will never see a chance to find out whether it has been used or not. But you can do it, by trying out with some data recover software that can recover Partition information, Files etc. like (Easy Recovery Professional). If it finds out files before you use the hard disk then definitely your hard disk has been used before you buy it.

If you examine the label of the drive you can find the manufacture date and the serial number for the drive.

yea definately....just call the vendors hotline and enquire about ur harddisk. provide them with ur serial number and they can give u all sorts of information. date of manufacture and stuff like that.
