Actually, as with all fairy tales, they are allegories meant to teach children hard facts of life. In the case of Beauty and the Beast, the beautiful girl represents spirituallity and virtue, while the beast represents selfishness and vice. We are told in the story that, given love and self sacrifice, the beauty in us all (our soul) is capable of transforming the beast (our animal insticts and vices) into a handsome prince: a rightful person. The same goes with the tale of the princess and the frog-prince.

I would say it refers to the female in the movie. Don't you remember, the prince was CURSED into being a beast.

Not true. Look at the black widow spider. She has the showy orange hour glass. He doesn't. Plus, she's bigger and shinier.

i think beauty was really beauty ( belle ) . as the people said in the opening song where they said her name belle meant beauty .
