Healthy and homeless. Then I'd walk over to rich person's house and wait four hours for them to crawl to the door, and then ask for a hand out.

In a heartbeat, rich with no legs.

The one responder is right when she says that if you are rich, then you can afford prosthetics/fake metal legs. Plus, if you are rich then you will be able to afford the necessary wheelchairs and equipment, home care, and other handicapped services. If you have money, then you will have necessities and physical comforts such as food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. And as much as this isn't a very constructive idea, having extra money can allow you to spoil yourself so that you take your mind off the hanidcap, such as treating yourself to box seats at a sports game, shopping sprees, fancy dinners, etc. It would really suck to not be able to move around, or to stick out as a "cripple"(this perception of oneself can lead to self-esteem problems and possible depression), but I think it is the lesser of the two evils.

Someone who is healthy but homeless probably will not stay healthy for too long. A homeless person is deprived of physical comforts such as adequate food, shelter, warmth, a place to sleep/rest, and an adequate place to clean/shower. Thigns such as poor hygiene, staying out in the cold, and lacking healthcare will eventually deteriorate one's health, even if only by a fraction. Factor into that equation the health/wellbeing risks that one faces when exposed to the violence and dangers that lurk the homeless shelters, city alleyways, city parks at night, and other unhomely places that homeless people surrender to sleeping at. A homeless person essentially has a "financial handicap." Once a person enters the streets, it is extremely difficult to leave the streets. This is due to the huge discrimination/stigma that society places on homeless people. This discrimination hinders the homeless person from obtaining help, having the confidence to ask for help when it's needed, and being able to secure employment so that he/she can pull him/herself out of the situation. There are many financial ramifications that create a sort of "Catch 22" for someone that is homeless and forced to start from the bottom up.

Physical comfort-wise, I definitely think the homeless person would have it worse. The homeless person would also be far worse off financially, which would affect how he/she would be able to obtain these necessities. The homeless person would also face a lot more discrimination, ostracization, and hindrances as far as securing employment(I've heard of people that got fired or coerced into quitting their job after it was revealed that they were homeless!), which would result in much difficulty in trying to become more financially secure. Plus, all of the discrimination would serve to really lower one's self-esteem and essentially "kick them when they're already down." I can see how this could lead to mental problems for many of the homeless, which would make their capabilities in securing employment/finances even harder!

Don't get me wrong...the handicapped individual would definitely face discrimination and teasings from some cruel individuals. But I think that for the most part, people are more sympathetic to the physically handicapped than the "financially handicapped"(aka the homeless). For example, many people often blame the homeless and accuse them of having drug addictions and say that their homelessness is "all their own fault." But how many people say that about someone without legs?
