I have got a 88 F- 150. When i drive it for a hour or 2 then i turn if off for a few minutes. Why does it act like the battery is low of energy, but if i leave it alone for about 30 minutes it is fine. Problem only happens after it has been ran for a little and has been known to melt the battery cables (negative side only so far.)

What do you mean by low on energy? The lights are dim, or it just cranks slowly?

If it cranks slow when it is warm, the starter may be getting too hot due to another problem i.e. exhaust leak, or is just in need of replacement.

Make sure the ground wire from the engine to the truck frame is in good shape. This cable should be pretty large. The starter uses this cable as its ground.

Bitburge is on the right track.

You have a bad starter motor. Have the "cranking amps" checked while truck is hot, and cold.

sounds like the battery isnt properly grounded you will have to trace it to see where the problem is but it shouldnt be too much to fix

if the truck has suffered water damage then the wiring might be damaged. even if it hasen't suffered water damage the wiring might be aging beyond its useful life. in either case it is a wiring fault and is not uncommon in older trucks.
