I was about 4 years old and at an airport in the Philipines. I remember being mesmerized. I loved Grimmace the most, the McNugget people were in 2nd place.

It was round 1970 or 71 when I was about 5 or 6 years old. My Brownie Troop got to go on a ‘tour’ behind the scenes of a brand new McDonalds within the Houston area. (my little suburban town did not have any fast food places except for 1 Dairy Queen, which is very typical of old small Texas towns) We got to meet the Manager and all the cooks and even got to walk through their super huge freezer which was very exciting. I don’t remember Ronald being there but they gave us coloring sheets of Ronald to color which they taped to the walls around the counter area. I don’t think the “happy meal" was around yet, but we each did get a cheese burger and small frys. Probably a drink of some kind but I don’t remember it. But the best part was that we each got a fried apple pie which was a brand new item and it was sooo very good. They don’t make fried apple pies anymore, only baked which aren’t as good.

:-) Thanks for bring up these happy memories!

I don't remember hearing about Ronald McDonalds. I think it's just one of those things that you grow up around all your life and it just kinda becomes part of you... Like if you grew up in the same house your whole life, you certainly wouldn't remember the first time you saw it, you know?

But yeah.. Grimmace was cool. And I loved the Hamburglar. It's so sad McDonalds kinda phased them out. When I was a kid, they were a big deal.

Also in the Houston in the early 70's (apparently it showed up later in Houston because they had to buy out a local restraunt of the same name). I remember seeing those bizarre kiddie commericals before it arrived. Then, later, finding it was just a funky version of burger king.
Their marketing has always seemed to work best on the really small fry. At 10 years, I was too old when they showed up and I never became a fan.

Seems like some 20 or 30 years ago McDonald's actually served real human food. I can almost remember really liking a McDonald's hamburger. Then again maybe not. Now I refer to them as McDogfoods. Answer your question?

Seems like I've always known about it. I actually worked there for 2 years in high school. Hated the job, but had a great time, working with a big group of people my own age, but not the kids I went to school with. Had a whole 2nd group of friends

I don't remember going to McDonalds until I lived in Germany, which was after age 7. They had McRibs, and they were to die for.

I am guessing 5 years of age. Couldn't care less about the odd guy in the clown suit. I figured he must be desperate for a job and signed up for it. Don't care less for Mcd's and the stupid monopoly game. No winners. They now taught me to not be a sucker to them or anybody elses stupid be a millionaire game. I can now actually barf up the McD's food now without batting an eye.

I remember being terrified of clowns as a child. I think they are secretly possessed by demons and feast on the dreams of innocent children.

Either that, or they're all secretly sad and crying on the inside.

Pity or fear them. The choice is yours.
