i want to be able to post videos and photos in addition to being able to write. i want it to be like an online journal/diary type of thing.

Live Journal is nice. They have an easy blogging client where you can even write your entries offline and then post when you're ready. A lot of people use Blogger, but I personally don't like it so much.
And of course there is MySpace, which lets you post just about anything. Depending on your age, you might like it. It seems to be geared toward teenagers and people in their 20s. And people in bands. But I digress.
Daily Diary is also fun. You can not only blog privately or publicly, but you can also set up a question or several to answer every day, plot your ratings, and set up joint ratings with friends or even the whole world.
Each site I mentioned allows you to post almost anything you want, content wise. They don't allow for sound clips and such, though, although with Live Journal at least, you can post photos and URLs.
There are others, but these should give you a nice start.
