Ask your doctor, but from what I understand if you have been lifting the kids normally, it's okay to keep doing it. I think it's only bad if you start doing something during pregnancy that your body isn't used to. And I think your body will tell you when you are doing something it can't handle.

I have 2 1/2 year old twins, and when i became pregnant i still had to lift them and care for them. I tried to limit things like moving furniture around, really heavy objects....as for the kids, i wouldnt lift them in the air to be "airplanes" anymore, but i still would lift them for normal routine care. Towards the end (im now 38 weeks and 5 days) i started to have a ton of pain when lifting them, so i was told by the Dr. no more. Just be careful how you lift the children, and you should be fine. Good luck.

Your doctor will tell you if you should take it really easy. You need to be extra careful to protect your back when you lift as there is already so much extra strain on it. Don't let the kids kick you in the belly (I have two boys and am pregnant with a third, I know about lifting kids and defending from WWF attacks). My doctor said to avoid anything over 25lbs and to avoid pushing furniture because of the way you use muscles. My smallest son weighs 30lbs, I only lift him when I have to, but that is usually once a day or more. Be careful, talk to your doctor, but don't make yourself crazy.

At 7 months pregnant, I was packing up my house to sell and move across country. My doctor told me that I would end up hurting my back before I ever could hurt the baby by lifting and carrying the heavy boxes. But, he would prefer me to only be lifting the equivant to a grocery sack full groceries as to not strain my back.

It's not a superstition, heavy weight can cause stress on the baby leading to a miscarriage.
I think anything over 10-15 pounds should not be lifted. Especially at the delicate stage of 16 weeks.
Becareful and don't pick up anything too heavy. Use a stroller for the children or you yourself could lose your baby.

You may not want to pick up the 3 and 4 year old when you get into your 7th month.I heard that it can cause early labor.

No. Don't worry. When you get into your 9th month, you will experience something called "nesting". That's when you start (for no explainable reason) re-arranging furniture in the house. You'll move heavy furniture all by yourself. Then hate the way the room looks, and put everything back. Three days later, you will give birth.

It depends upon the your health and strength/fitness level and what your doctor recommends. My doctor told me not to lift anything over 30 lbs.

as long as you arent hurting and you lift properly then you should be just fine. if it starts to hurt then you will have to get help or stop watching them. you can always sit down if it is just that they want to be held then there is no strain
