I just upgraded to a mac. I do a lot of Internet browsing and a few downloads here and there. Mac prides itself on not having many viruses and spyware, but should I still get virus/spyware protection. If so, are there any that are Mac specific? Thanks for the help.

No computer is 100% immune to viruses or spyware. Although Macs are less susceptible to infection, it's always good practise to install software that protects your system.

ClamXav is a free virus scanner which is quite popular among Mac users. I would suggest you give this a go before spending money on commercial software.
For spyware, I recommend MacScan.

Macs are starting to get more popular for the home user, more home users means more macs out there, which means b4 long the lowlife virus writters are gonna start attacking macs. dont beleive any1 that says a mac is a super computer and is untouchable, they probably the same people that said the titanic was unsinkable. grab some protection now why its still relatively safe or before long your gonna have the virus of your life that even a penicillian shot aint gonna fix.

Even though it is a mac it is a good idea to use some sort of virus protection since you will not always have 100% protection

Macs get fewer viruses because PCs are so common. when someone makes a virus, they put a lot of time into it and they want to affect as many people as they can (jerks). so when they make a virus, they make it for PCs because more people have those. there aren't many viruses that will affect your Mac. but it wouldn't hurt to get at least a little protection.

you see mac give software updates daily. These are to ensure that the Mac are always 1 step ahead of virus makers. As long as you keep getting software updates (which are free) you can't get them.
