The movie was fiction. It was based on historic events, but it was fiction. Whether or not it accurately portrays people is not really an issue because it's not based on fact. Furthermore, the events depicted happened almost 2500 years ago. How can anyone really know what the people were like back then.
Although 300 depicts I do not believe Frank Miller's graphic novel or the movie were ever intended to be taken as serious or accurate historical depictions.

The movie may have been based on the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. but it IS a Movie, nothing more. The director took certain liberties in making the movie that shouldn't be taken out of context and applied to real people. No claims were made as to it being a documentary or work based on truth. Its one and only goal is to entertain and, in the process, attract a huge audience to make a profit. That's all, nothing more, nothing less.

It is called Persia. Iran did not exist until WW2. I did not see that movie because I knew it would be ridiculous in terms of content and looked to me like another gladiator knockoff minus russel crow. If I recall my history correctly it was the spartans who oiled themselves up and ran around half naked and often engaged in homosexual behaviors.

The movie is based on a comic book...
A comic book.
The comic book is based on the myth of what took place at the Battle of Thermopalye.
A myth.
The myth of what took place at the battle of Thermopalye...barely resembles what actually took place.
Now...ask yourself the question again...
I fully understand why many Iranians feel dissed.

the word you want is portray. not portrait.
anyway no. they do not protray the real persia. (btw its not iran til much much later...like1000's of years)
they use a common rhetorical device called dehumanizing the enemy, and thus make you more on the side of the greeks. its not supposed to be a good representation of persia, its supposed to be a good enemy for the greeks to slaughter.
