it's only lose connection, if the lights go on and the system sees it, but you get erros trying to access it. If thats the case open the case. remove the connections from the PC motherboard, get rid of the dust, reconnect it in the same place firmly, but not too hard. Then do the same to the CD connection. Then run a systems check and see if it is working fine.
Before doing any of that,,,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER OFF AND ARE UNPLUGGED. ok, as so you don't get shocked or damage the PC.

there replaced into no longer some thing incorrect including your CD stress.. i imagine the you probably did not insert the CD suited. at the same time as the CD stress turned around the CD replaced into damaged and shredded. Now, because the CD replaced into shredded from contained in the lens may nicely be damaged. Get an authority to scrub the stress earlier you take advantage of it more beneficial.

SO SIMPLE
STEP 1)SWITCH PC POWER OFF
STEP 2)OPEN COMPUTER PANEL FROM SIDE
STEP 3)REMOVE POWER CABLE AND IDE(FLAT RIBBON CABLE)CAUTION BE CAREFULL WITH THIS CABLE
STEP 3)UNSCREW THE CD-DRIVE FROM THE SIDES
STEP 4)REMOVE CD ROM AND REPLACE WITH NEW CD ROM BUT BEFORE SET THE JUMPER PINS(JUMPER PINS IS A SMALL BLUE OR WHITE CLIP BEHIND THE CD-DRIVE
STEP 5)SET JUMPER PIN TO CA
STEP 6)INSERT POWER CABLE
STEP 7)REBOOT PC AND SEE IF IT WORKS
HOWEVER I RECOMMEND USING ANOTHER CD FOR TESTING THE OLD CD-DRIVE BEFORE INSERTING NEW CD-DRIVE.
THANKS AND REGARDS

ok .... unplug everything and take your modem and put it on a table... get access to the inside (trust me)
now from the side of the computer you will be able to see the drive/s bein held on some metal. on the back you will see wires plugged in, try pushing em in. make em snug and make sure non of the wire are lose.
theres no way you can hurt anything.
Good luck =)
